A unique 16th century building

Located opposite the Rol Zárate Palace, at the junction of Palomas and Naranjos streets, is the famous “Corner door with a window in stonework”. The architect Francisco Becerra expressed a belated union of Plateresque, Renaissance and late Gothic features in this unique corner. In fact, the entrance arch which is ogive and marked with a single moulding in the form of an alfiz, consists of a large horn on which the upper balcony rests. The balcony is flanked by two thin columns which in turn support the façade and give the entire piece an ascending feeling in contraposition to the incline of Palomas street.

This corner balcony has warranted the honour of sharing the 1993 50 peseta coin, commemorative of Extremadura, with the Alcántara Roman Bridge which appears on the back.
